In customs, merchandise inspection processes, known as "customs appraisal," are common, for example, in ports, airports, warehouses, and free trade zones. These processes require officials to travel from their homes or offices to the locations where the merchandise inspection operations will take place. However, this traditional practice is currently undergoing changes.
