On May 2, 2022, the 20th anniversary of the National Quality System in Costa Rica was celebrated. This event was organized by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC) in conjunction with representatives of the national productive sector. Our partner, Mr. Edgar Tenorio, an expert in non-tariff measures, gave a presentation on the importance of the system for the productive sector.
The National Quality System is a system whose components (standardization, technical regulation, metrology, and accreditation) operate harmoniously and in coordination, supporting the competitiveness of goods and services while fulfilling international commitments within the framework of the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, and the General Agreement on Trade in Services of the World Trade Organization.
From an export perspective, this system allows the productive sector to develop quality and safe goods, which can be demonstrated through conformity assessment schemes, such as registration, testing, and certification, for effective entry into other markets. It is a great achievement for the country to have a National Quality System that has accumulated experience and has been developing over the past 20 years.
